HANALEI FINS Range

Q5 Series

The Q5 series is the largest range of fins in the HANALEI FINS catalog.

We have been working on this design for over a year and will complete the final testing this winter. These fins represent the next advancement in the Q series, with functional and versatile designs.

The Q5 still carries forward the elliptical outline of previous series versions but features a more upright stance and refined blade tip. In addition, the shape of the cutaway has been refined to be more effective and to enhance its functionality on FUTURES bases. The cutaway keeps the base narrow for tight turns and maneuverability.

The other significant advancement with the larger versions of this template is the addition of the FLIPTWO flipped tips. This brings another level of performance to an already excellent fin. In addition, it enhances turns and adds a little extra feel late in the turn.

As with previous versions, it still carries a HOLOFOIL on the inside face, but it is a little more extreme in this design, improving speed and overall performance. The addition of the FLIPTWO tips has allowed these foils to be further enhanced for more speed.

This series is all about smooth power and versatility!

F8 Series

This is the newest series to join our range. It is loosely based on the DV9 design but with an added tip extension. All of the designs in this series also feature a slight flip in the tip, called the FLIPTWO.

This new design is a high-performance fin that handles various conditions. It features our PHAT FOILS and HOLOFOILS, with the FLIPTWO allowing for more efficient HOLOFOILS. In addition, extending the tip gives the fin a lot more feel later into the turn while also providing a better pivot point.

The main body of the fin is more wing-like than the typical fin, which allows it to generate lift efficiently and, thus, create forward momentum.

Due to how the FLIPTWO is implemented, the fin profile features a distinctive taper from the base to the transition to the flip. The FLIPTWO is, in turn, a lot thinner than our first-generation flips. We are minimizing the risks of cavitation. There is also a slight hollowing of the inside face of the flip to give it a little more bite during a turn.

A dedicated center fin design features even more prominent tips to provide greater holding power and feel in the water. In addition, the center fin has very distinctive foils that differentiate between the throat and blade of the fin.

XT2 Series

The XT2 series is an updated version of the original XTC RTM molded fins.

The overall outline is very similar to the original, with only minor tweaks to accommodate our manufacturing needs. The primary change has been altering the angle of the flipped tips, which now use our FLIPTWO tips. The foils have also been thickened for improved lift generation and speed.

As with previous versions, it still carries a HOLOFOIL on the inside face, but it is a little more extreme in this design, improving speed and overall performance. The addition of the FLIPTWO tips has allowed these foils to be further enhanced for more speed.

This series does not have a dedicated center fin design. Instead, it leverages either the F8-438C or Q5-463C templates.

QFT Series

The latest generation of the Q family of fin designs. These new QFT versions join the Q2 and enhance them with our FLIPTWO flipped tips.

Smooth, powerful, high-performance fins.

The Q2 fins are by far the best-selling fins in our range! They offer smooth power with lots of drive and holding power. The harder they are pushed, the better they work. Have to be tried to feel how good they are in the water.

Due to the rake of the larger fin, they tend to have excellent projection out of turns, making them suitable in larger surf!

These QFT versions raise the performance bar by adding our next-generation FLIPTWO flipped tips.

This series uses the center fins from the Q5 series: Q5-463CK and Q5-500CK.

A4C Series

The A4C series has undergone extensive testing before being put into production. This testing process resulted in many refinements and improvements to the series, easily making them the most versatile fins in our CNC range.

This series also has a wide range of sizes. These sizes cover a broad spectrum of fin combos, from twinzers to thrusters. We'll provide more details on the different possible combinations below.

The A4C is a combination of our original A3 and XPD2 designs. We combined the best characteristics of the two into a fresh design that would eventually replace these older designs. We added several different sizes to make this series as versatile as possible.

The shape of this series features a strong cutaway at the base and a reverse curve in the upper portion of the tip, adding more tip area. The trailing edge of the fin is shaped like an "S" in profile to better control the water flow off the trailing edge of the fin. This aspect is similar to the XPD2; all these features have been enhanced. Coupled with the PHAT FOILS, it further enhances the water flow on and off the fin.

The consensus is that these fins are total winners for the general consumer as they are easy to get your head around and don’t have a lot of visually unusual shapes. Of course, once you start looking closer, there is much more going on than your typical dolphin fin, but the more conventional shape makes them much more approachable for the average surfer. This is a good thing in our minds as it will attract more people to try something different, and once they do, they will be blown away.

Two of the primary fins in this series recently received a redesign. The A4C-500 and A4C-550 have been modified to use the new BLENDED-WING profile for a more significant performance boost. This type of foiling bends the fin's profile just over halfway up. It allows the tip to be thinned out, improving flex and enhancing the inside foils. After extensive testing, we are convinced these are an improvement over the originals.

The addition of the A4C-500CK KAHI center fin has also enhanced the versatility of this series. These center fins are a game-changer in a thruster setup, allowing it to feel and behave much more like a quad. They maintain speed through turns and add looseness without losing holding power!

This new series' fins feature our PHAT FOILS and HOLOFOILS and are available with GEARBOX, DUAL TAB, and FUTURES bases.

A4C BW Series

The A4C BLENDED-WING fins are replacement designs for the A4C-500 and A4C-550.

These new designs refine the existing templates by slightly adjusting the outlines at the cutaways.

The primary distinction lies in the incorporation of the BLENDED-WING feature. This feature introduces an outboard bend in the fin, positioned just above the midpoint of the base. This modification brings about several performance improvements. Firstly, it reduces the fin’s tip thickness and enhances its flexibility. Secondly, it divides the fin into two distinct sections, with the lower half providing the initial drive into a turn, while the upper half provides the drive out of the turn. Lastly, it optimizes the HOLOFOILS on the inner faces, thereby augmenting efficiency and speed.

These two sizes are replacements for their equivalents in the A4C series. We highly recommend these over the originals; they are just way better.

New for 2025, we are adding a 6.00" version for the ultimate twin fin setup.

This series utilizes the same center fin as the A4C series, specifically the A4C-500CK.

WS2 Series

The WS2 series is a second-generation version of our split keel design. They have undergone some minor tweaks in bringing them to our CNC range.

This series comprises only two designs - a front fin WS2-400FT and a back fin WS2-475. The front fin features our new FLIPTWO tip design for better performance and transition speed. In addition, both fins feature extensive hollow foils on the inside faces, again geared towards improved performance.

These fins can be used in many boards but are especially well suited to fish-style boards. When placed correctly, these fins can provide an enhanced twin fin feel but without the twitchiness of the typical twin fin.

The split keel design depends on the fins being placed as close together as possible for the best performance. By this, we mean the fore-n-aft placement. In addition, because the fins are essentially keel fins that have been split into two separate fins, their functionality depends on a tight cluster.

However, this setup can still work well in fin setups that are more spread out; they are just not as optimal as a tight cluster. These two templates can also be used separately, although the design was intended to be used as a quad setup.

We do not currently sell them separately; they are always sold as a quad set.

K9/PWR Series

The K9/PWR series is a new design series. These are only available as a quad set as the fins are matched.

It starts with the K9-450K, our KAHI cutaway keel fin. This fin provides a great combination of drive, maneuverability, and speed. The most prominent feature is the extreme cutaway. We call this cutaway style a KAHI. The cutaway keeps the base of the fin very narrow, allowing the board to turn quickly. While the rake and blade still provide plenty of power and projection. This fin serves as the engine for the combo.

It is paired up with the PWR-400 as the back fin. This fin serves a very distinct role. Due to the shape of the fin, the primary purpose is to add extra drive and speed later in a turn. This fin is commonly set up with a slight overlap inside the front fin. The shape of the fin concentrates the area down low, where it can add extra tracking and drive to a turn. Thereby complementing the front fin.

Both of these fins feature HOLOFOILS that improve their efficiency.

These fins are ideally suited to fish-style boards where a twin keel setup is typically used. They have also proven to be excellent for kneeboard fish-tyle boards.

Miscellaneous

In this section, we have gathered a few of the other great designs, which are mainly comprised of a single fin.

The first of these fins is the H8-400. This is a fantastic back fin in a quad setup or as a side bite in a 2PLUS1 setup. The same design also has a corresponding center fin. Its unique foil sets it apart from other fins. This is the eighth generation of this design, which has been around for over 12 years.

Finally, we have the NRG2-300C trailer center fin. This unique design can also be used as a stabilizer in a twin-fin setup or as a small back fin in a 5FIN.
